Distracted Driving Death Motivates Grieving Mother To Advocate For Free SAFE 2 SAVE App

SAN ANTONIO - Hours after she visits her daughter's grave on Saturday morning, Karin Zaltsman will host 150 people in her home.

"I'm so happy that so many people will come out to remember her," Zaltsman says of her 13-year-old daughter Emily, who died in a distracted driving accident on Loop 1604 on Sept. 14, 2017. "But I'm so angry why they are here to remember her. I pretty much cry daily."

The gathering Saturday is also an effort to spread awareness about the free Safe 2 Save app aimed at preventing tragedies by rewarding users with points that can be redeemed for prizes. New app users get 500 bonus points - enough for a free Chick-fil-A sandwich - by including the code "EMILY" when signing up.
