SAFE 2 SAVE App Incentivizes Safe Driving On San Antonio Roads
SAN ANTONIO -- Bexar County has the most distracted driving deaths in the state with 29,873 crashes in 2017, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Forty-five of those crashes were fatal.
But now, a free app called SAFE 2 SAVE aims to decrease that number.
“We believe that incentives are going to change behavior,” says Aaron Collins, San Antonio area director for SAFE 2 SAVE. “As you begin to drive over ten miles per hour you earn two points. Those points are then redeemable for restaurants.”
SAFE 2 SAVE first launched in College Station and most recently expanded to San Antonio in July. Some restaurants that accept the app’s points include Dave & Buster’s, Lenny’s Grill & Subs, Bush’s Chicken, Papa John’s, and Chick-fil-A. Collins adds, if people enter the code “News4”, users get an extra 500 points.
